About Me
I’m Veurdgel Walter, a designer, educator, and media creator born in Curaçao and currently based in Columbia, South Carolina. My journey began behind the mic at Semiya FM, a youth radio station where I discovered the power of storytelling through sound. That early spark evolved into a lifelong passion for media, education, and design. With degrees in Journalism and Multimedia Technology, I’ve built a career at the intersection of instructional design, curriculum development, and creative strategy. I specialize in designing learning experiences that are inclusive, engaging, and culturally responsive—whether for K–12 classrooms, international schools, or corporate training environments. My multilingual fluency in English, Spanish, Dutch, and Papiamentu allows me to create content that resonates across borders. I’ve worked extensively with adult learners, designing professional development programs, onboarding experiences, and digital literacy courses that prioritize clarity, relevance, and autonomy. I understand how adults learn—and I design with that in mind. In designing engaging instructional solutions, I apply the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) and Merrill’s First Principles of Instruction as foundational structures. Within this framework, I embed gameful learning strategies, background stories, learning centers, and real-life problem-solving to reach diverse learners and increase intrinsic motivation. I align all elements with the 8 Core Human Drives—such as curiosity, meaning, and achievement—to ensure both cognitive and emotional engagement. My instructional philosophy is rooted in Constructivism: the belief that learners build knowledge through experience, reflection, and problem-solving. I integrate this with game elements like quests, feedback loops, and progress tracking to transform learning into an immersive, motivating experience that empowers learners to take ownership of their growth. I’m proficient in tools like Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Camtasia, and Google Workspace, and I’m always exploring new platforms to elevate learning and design. Whether I’m building gamified modules, coaching educators, or producing multimedia content, my goal is simple: design learning that motivates, empowers, and connects.
